
What's missing from your equation above is audio.

Look again at Logic's single track: it does the function of THREE tracks - MIDI, Instrument, and Audio. I don't know why I should favor one over the other I guess. MIDI volume vs VI volume always confuses me - I know how they are different and how they work. Which should I use? Why? If I fiddle a volume fader on a MIDI track - do the other MIDI tracks track the volume position? (I don't think so but my system is down for upgrade so I can't try it). However, I always find the existence of a fader on a MIDI track vs a fader on a vi track confusing for mixing. I like that multiple MIDI tracks route to a single vi.
